HIV/AIDS LONG-TERM SURVIVOR * YOUTH EDUCATION * ADVOCACY * ACTIVISM * RESOURCES
What an honor it was to speak at the 2004 opening ceremonies for the ACT II AIDS Ride in Madison, Wisconsin with then Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin.
My first AIDS Ride was the California AIDS Ride 7 in 2000. I was honored to be part of the lunch crew. In 2004, a big part of my move to Madison, Wisconsin was that they had an active AIDS ride as well. I spoke for ACT II and was part of the support crew as the "Check-in Lady." I was responsible for helping to ensure that every rider was accounted for.
Much more to come about my involvement, and love for, the AIDS rides in both states.

Heartfelt thanks to Katy Sai and Jay Olsen!
WISC news anchor Katy Sai and photographer Jay Olsen were tired of fighting for time to produce longer, relevant stories, so they quit and launched Storybridge.tv.

AIDS/LifeCycle was a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, co-produced by and benefitting San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. We made sure that pedaling those miles is all riders had to focus on - our teams took care of the rest. The event raised awareness about the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic and funds services such as HIV testing, prevention, care, and much more.
The ride began in 1994 and was called the "California AIDS Ride." In 2002, it was rebranded as AIDS/LifeCycle. Since 1994, participants have raised more than $339 million for the HIV and AIDS-related services of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Thanks to my lafriend and therapist Mickie C. Robbins who introduced me to the California AIDS Ride!
The last AIDS/LifeCycle (ALC) bicycle ride was in June 2025, marking the end of this 31-year tradition of biking from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS, concluding with a final finish in Santa Monica after organizers faced rising costs and declining resources.
The AIDS LifeCycle was a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, co-produced and benefiting the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Since 1994 (when it was known as the California AIDS Ride), participants have raised more than $300 million for HIV and AIDS-related services. In September 2024, the organizations announced that 2025 would be the final ride.

Thank you to the Capps family!
HIV stigma is negative attitudes and beliefs about people with HIV. It is the prejudice that comes with labeling an individual as part of a group that is believed to be socially unacceptable.
You might be wondering how you can address an issue as complex as HIV stigma. But there are many small things you can do that will make a big difference.
If each of us commits to making positive changes in our families and communities, we can help end HIV stigma and work to stop HIV together.
I’ve been riding motorcycles most of my life — 50+ years.
Hondas. Harleys. And now, my beloved Can-Am Spyder (named Phoenix). For me, it’s all about wind therapy.
